MediaTek MT6752 Review, Specification and Benchmark Test

MediaTek MT6752 is a 64-bit Octa-Core Processor by MediaTek and it first became available in the 3rd quarter of 2014. This SOC is for low-end and mid-range smartphones. Many popular smartphones such as the Lenovo K3 Note, Meizu M1 Note, Vivo X6, Sony Xperia C4 run on this chipset. As of 2017, this processor is quite old and not recommended if you’re planning to purchase a new device. To get more details of this SOC, follow this article and we will cover the Benchmarks and review the performance of this chip.

MT6752 is an Octa-Core chipset with 8 Cortex A53 cores running at 1.7 GHz. It uses the 28nm HPM Manufacturing Process. It has the ARM’s Mali-T760 Graphics Processing Unit with a clock speed of 700 MHz. We will cover the full specification in the next section. So, is it okay to purchase a phone with this System-on-Chip? Continue with this article to find out!

As already mentioned, MediaTek MT6752 has an Octa-Core CPU with the 64-bit instruction set. The eight cores in this CPU are divided into two clusters consisting of 4 Cortex-A53 cores each. All the cores in this processor run at a maximum frequency of 1.7 GigaHertz. It uses the 28nm HPM fabrication technique. However, in 2017 and later, we have better fabrication techniques such as 14nm FinFET (Snapdragon 625) for the mid-range SOCs. Also, the 28nm HPC+ Process which is present in Helio P10 is more efficient than the 28nm HPM.

This System-On-Chip has the Mali-T760 GPU with a frequency of 700 MHz. It can run most of the games without any issues. But you may observe some lag in high-end games. The ARM’s Mali-T760 Graphics Processor supports a maximum display resolution of 1920×1080. Coming to the Primary Memory, it supports a Single-Channel RAM and the frequency of the memory is 800 MHz. It has a Category-4 LTE Modem which can give a download speed of up to 150 Mb/second. The Image Signal Processor supports a Camera Sensor up to 16 Megapixels. It uses the Bluetooth v4.0. In video encoding, H.264 is supported and it can play the H.264, H.265 videos.

    MT6752 Antutu Benchmark

MediaTek MT6752 Antutu Benchmark

On average, this processor scores around 40-45k in Antutu Benchmark. This score is similar to most of the mobile processors that have an Octa-Core Cortex-A53 CPU. This score is similar to MT6750 and Snapdragon 425 (Check Snapdragon 425 and 435 Comparison here). MediaTek Helio P10 scores 47k+ in Antutu due to a higher clocked CPU. While the Snapdragon 625 touches 60k in Antutu due to 14nm FinFET Fabrication and a better Graphics Processing Unit.

    MT6752 GeekBench 4 Score

MediaTek MT6752 GeekBench 4 Score

MT6752 gets a decent score in GeekBench 4 as well. This score is of Lenovo K3 Note and in Single-Core Performance, the score is 748. While in the Multi-Core performance, it scores 3,249 points.

    MT6752 Performance Review

Benchmark Scores shouldn’t be the only criteria to judge the performance. A good benchmark score doesn’t always translate into a better real-world performance. Now, it is the time to review this Processor and I’ll divide it into 5 separate sections. We will talk about the Daily-Life Performance, Gaming Capabilities, Battery Performance, and the Price-to-Performance Ratio. Lastly, I’ll rate this processor in the same categories.

General Performance

General Performance of this chipset is somewhat between above average and good. Unless the phone’s UI isn’t heavily skinned and the rest of the phone’s specs are not good, you shouldn’t expect lags and other issues. But sometimes you may face occasional UI lags while multitasking and performing heavy tasks. If you’re aware of Custom ROMs and Android Development, you should flash stock Android for your device to get better performance. New Smartphones that have the low-end Snapdragon Processors such as SD 425 and 435 deliver better performance.

Gaming Performance

Just like the General Performance, the gaming performance is average with the Mali-T760 GPU. You will not face any issues while playing most of the games but there may be some lag in some of the high-end games. If gaming performance is your primary concern, this SOC is not for you. For gaming, go with a 14nm Processor such as Snapdragon 625 which doesn’t heat or lag with extended gaming.

Power/Battery Efficiency

The 28nm HPM Process is not that great for power efficiency and the battery performance of this SOC is average. You might face throttling and heating issues with extended usage. Processors which use a better Fabrication technique like 14nm (Snapdragon 625) and 10nm (Snapdragon 835) produce less heat and give a long-lasting battery performance.

Price-to-Performance Ratio

Smartphones such as the Vivo X6 and Sony Xperia C4 are quite overpriced while some of the phones like Lenovo K3 Note and Meizu M1 Note have a fair price. This section depends more on the smartphone’s OEM rather than the Chip Manufacturer. Invest your money wisely and always remember that the SOC shouldn’t be the only criteria to judge a phone.

    Final Recommendations

For an average user and for basic daily-life tasks, this is a good processor but for heavy tasks, it is not recommended. In 2017, I will not recommend you to buy any MediaTek MT6752 smartphone. Currently, in the smartphone market, there are a lot of low-budget smartphones such as Redmi 4X are available, which give a better user experience compared to the MTK MT6752 devices. As I have already mentioned a couple of times before, also look at the battery, display, build quality, design, camera, and rest of the specification before investing your money in a smartphone. That’s it for this review. If you have any queries, do post them in the comments section below. Here’s a list of some of the popular smartphones running on this Procesor.
