Looking to Root Moto G5 or G5 Plus to enhance your Android experience? Well, then you have arrived at the right place. Today I’ll show you how can you unlock the bootloader of your Moto G4 and also how you can root Moto G4 and Plus. Let’s get started!

Steps to Root Moto G5 & G5 Plus:
1) Installing the Necessary Drivers
1) Unlocking Bootloader
2) Flashing TWRP
3) Flashing SuperSU
1) Installing the Drivers
Install both the Minimal ADB and Fastboot Drivers & Motorola Device Manager Drivers by following simple on-screen instructions.
2) Unlocking of Bootloader
a) First Enable Developer Options and then enable USB Debugging in your Motorola G5 or G5 Plus.
To do so, open Settings->About Phone and tap the build number 7 times.
This will enable the Developer Options in your phone. Open the Developer Options from the Settings and Enable ‘USB Debugging’
b) Open the ADB.exe file from the ADB Drivers Setup file which will look similar to a command prompt window.
Now connect the phone with you PC and on the command prompt, type “adb reboot bootloader”, without the double quotes.
Now your phone will enter the Bootloader Mode. In case you get any errors then reinstall your drivers.
c) Type “fastboot oem get_unlock_data” in command prompt and you will get a code similar to the one shown in the image below:
d) Paste these 5 lines of codes together:
Make sure no spaces are left and these 5 lines look as one single line.
e) Visit the Motorola Bootloader Unlock Website and sign in to your Motorola Account.
f) Now paste the final code we obtained from the step (d) and click on “Can my device be unlocked.”.
g) Now at the bottom of the page, check the “I agree” box and press “Request Unlock Key” button.
Now you’ll receive the unlock key in your Gmail.
h) Now after obtaining the key from you Gmail, type this command:
fastboot oem unlock “YOURKEY”
Here replace YOURKEY with the key you received in your mail.
Congratulations, your Device is successfully unlocked.
3) Flashing TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project)
a) Download the TWRP image of your device from the link below:
TWRP for Moto G5 Plus
(TWRP for Moto G5 isn’t available yet. We’ll update this post once it is available.)
b) Boot into the Recovery Mode. To do so, switch off the device and hold Power Key + Volume Down Key
c) Connect your Phone with the PC
d) Open adb.exe file in your PC and type “fastboot flash recovery twrp.img”. Here replace twrp word with the twrp image name of the file you downloaded.
This will successfully flash the TWRP Recovery in you Moto G5 and will reboot your phone.
4) Flash SuperSU
This is the final step to root Moto G5. This step involves flashing SuperSU.zip file.
a) Download SuperSu from this link : SuperSU
b) Reboot your Phone in Recovery mode
c) Go to TWRP -> Advanced -> Terminal -> type this: echo “SYSTEMLESS=true” > /data/.supersu
d) Now flash the SuperSu ZIP file as shown in the image below:
Congratulations, you have successfully rooted your Moto G5. Now enjoy the Custom ROMs for your device!
